In the small town of Bearcat, a group of ranchers are being taken advantage of by Big Jim Grady, who offers to buy their cattle at ridiculously low prices. Steve Haley proposes a plan to unite the ranchers and drive their herds to Abilene, Kansas, where they can get a fair market price. Meanwhile, Steve's friend Smiley infiltrates the group of rustlers to uncover their leader's identity. When Grady's henchman, Doc Walker, asks Steve to disrupt the cattle drive, Steve agrees, using the opportunity to gather intelligence on the rustlers. As the gang attempts to steal the herd, Steve, disguised as the Durango Kid, foils their plans and saves the cattle.
