Amy Townsend, a free-spirited woman, has a complicated relationship with her father, who believes monogamy is unrealistic. She has a history of casual sex and currently has a boyfriend who is unaware of her infidelity. Amy works at a sensationalistic magazine and is in line for a promotion if her next story meets her boss's standards. She writes a profile of Dr. Aaron Conners, a sports doctor, despite knowing little about sports. To her surprise, Aaron wants to date her after their first encounter, and she finds herself wanting to date him despite her initial reservations.
