Person Biography:
Robert Lorenz, a renowned film industry professional, began his journey in Los Angeles in 1989 with a passion for filmmaking and a determination to succeed. Starting out at Roger Corman's B-movie studio in Venice, California, Lorenz worked his way up the ranks, eventually becoming the right-hand man to the legendary director Clint Eastwood.
In 2002, Eastwood was impressed by Lorenz's work ethic and shared enthusiasm for filmmaking, and asked him to produce the critically acclaimed film MYSTIC RIVER. This marked the beginning of a long and successful producing partnership between the two, resulting in over a dozen collaborations, including the Oscar-winning Best Picture MILLION DOLLAR BABY, GRAN TORINO, INVICTUS, LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA, and AMERICAN SNIPER, among others. Throughout this period, Lorenz earned three Academy Award nominations.
In 2012, Lorenz transitioned into the director's chair with the well-received film TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE, starring Eastwood, Amy Adams, Justin Timberlake, and John Goodman. He continued to collaborate with Eastwood on several projects, including AMERICAN SNIPER, for which he also directed the second unit. Following the film's record-breaking success, Lorenz decided to focus on his own writing and directing projects.
In 2019, Lorenz began a new partnership with Hollywood legend Liam Neeson, starring in THE MARKSMAN, a film directed, produced, and co-written by Lorenz. The film was a box office hit, topping the charts for several weeks. The duo reunited for the feature film IN THE LAND OF SAINTS AND SINNERS, a tense crime thriller set during The Troubles and shot entirely in Ireland, starring Ciarán Hinds, Kerry Condon, and Jack Gleeson.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Lorenz studied film at the University of Iowa before moving to Los Angeles, where he currently resides with his wife Melissa, a public high school English teacher, and their two children.
