In 1930s Austria, a young woman named Maria becomes the governess of seven mischievous children after failing to become a nun. She wins over the children's hearts with her kindness, understanding, and sense of fun, bringing joy to the household. As Maria and their father, Captain Georg Von Trapp, grow closer, they question their decisions amidst his impending engagement to Baroness Elsa and Maria's postulant status. However, their personal conflicts are soon overshadowed by the threat of Austria's annexation by Germany, which could force the Captain to fight against his own country.
