A small town is plagued by a gang's swindling scheme, targeting local ranchers with worthless mines. As the sheriff is killed for getting too close, Steve Gordon, aka "The Durango Kid," takes over and initially appears incompetent, while his alter-ego secretly works to expose the gang and bring them to justice.

The Durango Kid assumes the role of sheriff after the previous one's murder and uncovers a con artist, Brady, who has been swindling the townspeople by hiding diamonds in a local mine.
