Marty Bronson builds the Sunny Vista Motel in Los Angeles, intending to raise his children there. However, the motel goes bankrupt and he's forced to sell it to Barry Nottingham, who promises his son Skeeter a general manager position. Years later, Skeeter becomes the handyman at Barry's new hotel, while his sister Wendy, a principal, travels to Arizona for a job interview, leaving her kids with Skeeter and his friend Mickey. Skeeter tells bedtime stories to the kids, which come true, affecting his life. Barry eventually gives Skeeter a chance to compete for the hotel manager position against the arrogant Kendall.
