A rugged Italian-American doorman embarks on a journey with a renowned African-American pianist, confronting the harsh realities of racial segregation in the Deep South during the turbulent 1960s.

Tough bouncer Frank "Tony Lip" Vallelonga accepts a job as driver for African-American pianist Don Shirley on a concert tour through the Deep South, navigating racial segregation with the help of "The Negro Motorist Green Book." Despite their vastly different backgrounds and personalities, they develop a begrudging respect for each other and ultimately form a lasting friendship.
